Stop paying to cool your crawl space.
Most homes in Eastern NC run their ducts through a vented crawl space, and in a typical older system, 20 to 30 percent of the air you paid to cool never reaches a room. It escapes through failed joints, crushed flex duct, and disconnected boots, while the return side sucks in humid under-house air to replace it. If you have high bills, uneven rooms, sticky air, and a musty smell when the system kicks on, there's a good chance the ducts are the reason.
From inspection to full replacement
Duct inspection and leak testing
We crawl your actual duct system with a flashlight and instruments and bring back photos. Ten minutes of pictures usually explains ten years of comfort complaints.
Duct sealing
Mastic-sealed joints and boots stop the leaks where they happen. For the money, it’s one of the best home-performance projects there is, and it can qualify under NC’s whole-home HOMES rebate program.
Duct repair and re-support
Crushed flex runs, fallen sections, rodent damage, moisture damage. Crawl spaces are hard on ductwork, and most of what we find can be fixed in a day.
Duct insulation
An uninsulated duct sweating in a humid crawl space drips condensation and bleeds capacity at the same time. Proper insulation fixes both problems at once.
Duct design and replacement
For renovations, additions, and systems that were never right to begin with: ductwork sized and laid out properly. We design it the way builders design it, because we are the builders.
Dryer vents and bath fans
The small ducts matter too. A bath fan blowing into the crawl space or attic is a mold machine. We route them outside, where they belong.
The cheapest capacity you can buy
Here's the math most companies skip on the way to selling you equipment. If your ducts lose a quarter of your system's output, sealing them gives that quarter back. You just bought a chunk of new air conditioner for a fraction of what one costs. It's also the honest first step before any replacement, because sizing a new system against leaky ducts locks the waste in for another 15 years. When we quote a replacement, the duct inspection comes with the visit.
- Typical duct sealing costs a small fraction of system replacement
- Sealing and insulation can qualify under Energy Saver NC’s whole-home rebates, up to $16,000 per home for qualifying efficiency packages
- Photo documentation before and after, on every job
About duct cleaning
Straight answer: cleaning has its place after construction dust, rodent intrusion, or confirmed mold. Beyond that it gets oversold, and it does nothing about leaks, which are the actual problem in most homes here. If a company leads with cleaning before anyone has inspected for leaks, that tells you something about their business model. We inspect first and recommend second.
Straight answers
How do I know if my ducts leak?
Strong clues: rooms that never match the thermostat, bills that have crept up over the years, a musty smell when the system starts, and dust that comes right back after you clean. Confirming it takes an inspection. We crawl it, photograph it, and show you exactly what’s leaking and what fixing it costs.
Is duct sealing really worth the money?
In vented-crawl-space country, it’s routinely the best dollar you can spend on comfort. Far rooms improve right away, bills come down, less humid crawl-space air gets pulled into the system, and whatever equipment you buy next gets to deliver its full capacity. Qualifying projects can also get help from the state’s HOMES rebate program.
Duct sealing vs. duct cleaning: which do I need?
They fix different problems. Sealing stops air from escaping, which is about comfort, bills, and humidity. Cleaning removes debris inside the ducts, which matters after construction, pests, or confirmed mold. Most homes that call asking about cleaning turn out to need sealing. The inspection settles it with photos instead of opinions.
Can ducts in a crawl space be replaced entirely?
Yes. A full replacement with properly sized, sealed, and insulated duct usually takes one or two days. It often makes sense to bundle it into a remodel while floors are already open, and since we’re the GC and the HVAC contractor, we can time it that way.
